Terms of use
Last updated: 8 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Just An Hour when you use itsjustanhour.com. By creating an account, you agree to them. Please read them alongside our privacy policy, which explains how we look after your personal details.
We've kept them short and in plain language. If you have a question, email hello@itsjustanhour.com.
1.Who we are
Just An Hour is run by David O'Mahony, an individual based in Barcelona, Spain. In these terms, "we" and "us" means Just An Hour, and "you" means anyone using the site.
2.What Just An Hour does
Just An Hour is a free directory that helps you find local organisations that need volunteers, and send them an application. That's where our part ends.
- We're not a volunteering organisation ourselves, and we don't employ, manage or supervise volunteers.
- Any volunteering you do is arranged directly between you and the organisation. They decide whether to take you on, what you'll do, and how they'll support and train you.
- Volunteering is unpaid. Applying through Just An Hour doesn't create a job, a contract of employment or any promise of a place.
3.Who can use it
You need to be 16 or over to create an account. Some roles are only open to people over 18, and organisations may ask volunteers under 18 for permission from a parent or guardian.
You can only have one account, and it's just for you.
4.Your account
- Give us accurate details and keep them up to date. Organisations rely on them to contact you.
- Keep your password safe and don't share your account. You're responsible for what happens on it.
- Tell us at hello@itsjustanhour.com if you think someone else has got into your account.
5.Applying to organisations
When you apply, we send the organisation your profile, the roles you picked and your note, as described in our privacy policy. Please:
- Only apply to roles you genuinely want to do.
- Be honest in your application and when you speak to the organisation.
- Follow the organisation's own rules, training and safety guidance when you volunteer with them.
- Let the organisation know if you can no longer take part.
Organisations reply in their own time and aren't obliged to accept every application. We can't guarantee that you'll hear back or be offered a place.
6.About the organisations
We only list organisations that have agreed to be on Just An Hour, and we do our best to keep their information accurate. But organisations write and update their own descriptions and roles, and they, not us, are responsible for:
- The roles they offer and how they run them.
- Checking volunteers are suitable, including any legally required checks, for example for roles with children.
- Training, supervising and supporting volunteers, and keeping them safe.
- Insuring their volunteers, as Spanish volunteering law requires.
- How they use your details once they receive your application.
If you have a problem with an organisation, please raise it with them first. You're also welcome to tell us, and we'll look into whether they should stay listed.
7.Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- Give false information, pretend to be someone else, or create accounts for other people without their permission.
- Use the site, or the contact details of organisations, to send spam, advertising or anything unrelated to volunteering.
- Write anything abusive, discriminatory or illegal in your applications.
- Try to access other people's accounts or data, interfere with how the site works, or copy content from it in bulk (for example with automated tools).
8.Your content and ours
Anything you write, like your application notes, stays yours. You give us permission to store it and send it to the organisations you apply to, which is what it's for.
The Just An Hour name, logo, design and the text we've written belong to us. Organisation names, descriptions and photos belong to the organisations. Please don't reuse any of it without permission.
9.Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Your details are then deleted as described in our privacy policy. Organisations you've already applied to keep the details they received.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk or misuses the site. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first.
10.Changes to the site
Just An Hour is a small, new service. We'll keep improving it, which means features may change, and occasionally the site may be unavailable for maintenance. We'll try to give notice of any big changes. If we ever decide to close the service, we'll let you know in advance and delete your details.
11.Our responsibility to you
We provide Just An Hour free of charge and do our best to keep it working and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free.
Because volunteering is arranged between you and the organisation, we're not responsible for what happens while you volunteer, or for what organisations do or don't do.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer under Spanish or EU law, or our responsibility for anything the law doesn't allow us to exclude, such as harm caused by our negligence or fraud.
12.Changes to these terms
If we update these terms, we'll change the date at the top. If the changes matter, we'll tell you by email or on the site before they apply. If you keep using Just An Hour after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree with them, you can delete your account.
13.Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If there's a problem, please contact us first and we'll try to sort it out. If we can't, you can take it to the courts where you live, or contact your local consumer office (Oficina Municipal de Información al Consumidor in Barcelona).
